Material Development Communication for Insurers

Introduction of the Lloyd’s Claims Lead Arrangement (CLA) included a requirement for Material Development Communications (MDC), previously known as key event protocols, to be shared in certain circumstances. To help improve consistency in approach and adequacy of the information being shared, members of the LMA claims sector groups and Joint Claims Committees came together to create a single template recommended for use across all classes of business. The template can be used by both Lloyd’s and Company market insurers.

While claims agreement party codes or watchlist codes are specific to the Lloyd’s CLA, the use of these by Company market insurers can support the sharing of relevant and useful information.

Furthermore, the use of a single template form is a supportive preparatory step in the lead up to the introduction of ICOS – the single London market claims solution.
