Joint Liability Committee – 29 October 2025

A key discussion focused on sexual misconduct risks within the maritime sector, highlighting potential liability exposures, challenges in risk management, and the absence of consistent industry standards. Members emphasised the role insurers could play in driving improved practices through policy conditions and noted this as an ongoing agenda item.

The Committee reviewed high-risk areas and war-related exposures, noting continued monitoring by the Joint War Committee and evolving considerations for P&I and non-poolable business.

Progress was reported on the ‘outbreak of war’ project, with work underway to develop a framework to support clarity around automatic termination provisions. Updates were also provided on sub-committee activity, including clause development, data initiatives and blue card processes. Claims and legal discussions covered climate-related exposures, PFAS litigation and cyber risk developments within international conventions.
