Claims Operations Apprentice,
Lloyd’s Market Association
I started my role as a Claims Operations Apprentice a month ago, and it has been a very busy, immersive and amazing four weeks. It was nerve-wracking to start a new and completely different role in many ways, but everyone at the LMA has been so welcoming and supportive.
Four weeks in, I have helped my team analyse and present results, started my own learning on insurance and have sat in and listened to many very interesting meetings and conversations covering all aspects of the market.
Before joining the LMA, Lloyd’s had interested me because of the building and how it works. I remember thinking the building was strange and odd looking, then seeing the Adam Room and the Old Library (which completely contradicts the architecture) and being in awe. I knew of the LMA before, but I did not truly understand the very important role they play within the market and with the managing agents.
During my first month, my time has been spent learning about the insurance industry including the market and the different classes of business. I have had first-person experience of how the LMA prioritises the market and their needs, as well as how they can assist in making it better. The collaboration and teamwork between everyone from each and every team is essential for this to not only work but work well.
Some highlights from my time here so far include attending market meetings and forums to discuss pressing issues that should be considered in the market. To sit and listen to experts talk about problems and solutions is something I look forward to experiencing throughout my time here. I have attended training sessions to broaden my knowledge of the market, not only online seminars, but one to one sessions with colleagues who take time out of their day to answer any questions I have and help me understand the industry I am now a part of.
The environment and everyone at the LMA have been incredibly supportive and welcoming. Many people have been willing to share their knowledge to help me settle in, which has made the transition from my previous role as a receptionist much smoother and helped me feel like part of the team.
I’m really looking forward to everything the LMA has to offer over the duration of my apprenticeship, from the knowledge I am yet to gain and the people I am yet to meet. I am excited to dive deeper in projects with my team and see the outcomes in such a broad industry. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to learn with such an amazing team and be a part of an organisation which makes a difference.
