Joint Liability Committee – 06 May 2026

The Committee reviewed progress on prior actions, including ongoing work relating to legal interpretation of conventions, war exposures, and increased engagement with younger market participants through planned U35s sessions.

A key focus was renewables and energy transition liability, where members highlighted concerns around inconsistent wordings and evolving contractual exposures. It was agreed these issues would be progressed via the Renewable Energy Committee, with JLC support as required.

Discussion on Middle East developments centred on unintended war-on-land exposures within liability policies and the legal and sanctions implications of transit-related payments. Members were encouraged to review coverage positions and seek legal advice where appropriate.

The Committee also advanced work on risk codes, including proposals for War P&I and marine property, alongside market data discussions highlighting lengthening claims tails and the need for improved data segmentation.
