Joint Renewable Energy Underwriting Committee – 07 October 2025

The Renewable Energy Committee met on 7 October 2025. Members discussed growing concerns over automatic policy extensions in construction projects, particularly extended maintenance periods and “lead agree only” clauses, highlighting risks for non-lead markets and treaty implications. The need for explicit pro rata language in slips was emphasised. Lloyd’s guidance on cyber clauses was reviewed, noting that LMA2914 is not considered compliant and that market use is being monitored.

The DNV wind project certification training initiative was confirmed, with a two-day course in London for small groups. Sub-groups reported mixed progress: QA/QC work has stalled; the obsolescence clause is being redrafted; and the wordings group is refining statements of values and turbine operational hour definitions.

Claims discussions covered a major US supercell wind loss, BESS incidents limiting access to root cause data, and unexpected Vietnamese tax liabilities. Brokerage practices, engineering fees, and committee leadership elections were also addressed.
