US General Liability Business Panel – 21 May 2025

The panel welcomed representatives from the California and Washington Surplus Lines Associations, who shared perspectives on market access, claims handling and regulatory challenges. Discussions highlighted the time zone barrier to engaging London underwriters, the limited visibility of Lloyd’s in casualty placements and the need to better promote Lloyd’s claims service. Regulatory updates included California’s Privacy Disclosure Bill and ongoing Reviver legislation, as well as the appointment of a consumer-focused Insurance Commissioner in Washington. Emerging risks were noted in cannabis and construction sectors. Members expressed concern over inconsistent carrier settlement practices and the soft casualty market’s impact on coverage availability, particularly for foster care facilities. The meeting underscored the importance of broker education and proactive engagement to reposition Lloyd’s as a first-choice market.
