Shipping UK Conference
At Shipping UK on 06 October, three experts working at the forefront of maritime risk will examine how the industry is navigating an increasingly complex threat environment.
During the Risk Mitigation Masterclass, Neil Roberts, Head of Marine and Aviation at the LMA; Charlotte Kleberg, Board and Advisory at Soya Group; and John Stawpert, Principal Director Marine at the International Chamber of Shipping will discuss regional tensions and political fallout, including the growing challenge of sanctions.
From the insurance market, expect a candid account of what underwriters can and cannot do. Neil will explore the central role of risk assessment and due diligence, the challenge of managing divergence between legislators as national sanctions policies pull in different directions and why the market’s ability to keep cover in place is so widely misunderstood. The panel will also examine the definitional challenges surrounding cyber and AI that make these risks increasingly difficult to insure and regulate.
From a strategic perspective, the discussion will turn to resilient logistics and civil military integration: what commercial shipping is already prepared to offer in support of national resilience, why ‘sea blindness’ persists not only among the public but within governments and the economics of using willing merchant capacity alongside naval platforms.
Running throughout the discussion will be the human element: the multinational crews on whom world trade depends and what today’s threat environment means for recruiting the seafarers of tomorrow.
Shipping UK takes place on 06 October 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, hosted by the UK Chamber of Shipping in partnership with Riviera Maritime Media. The conference will bring together global industry leaders, key stakeholders, UK and international policymakers and sector experts for a day of discussion about the future of the industry.
