Notice of Intention to Archive (Casualty) on 09 February 2026

LMA26-004-CG | 20 January 2026

Project Spring Clean

During 2025, the LMA ran Phase 1 of Project Spring Clean, an initiative to assess older wordings and clauses (“wordings”) in the Core section of the Lloyd’s Wordings Repository (LWR).

We have worked with underwriting committees to assign a decision for each wording in scope:

  • Keep; the wording is in use and will retain ‘active’ status on the LWR.
  • Archive; the wording is no longer in use (obsolete) or has been superseded and can be archived on the LWR.
  • Update; the wording would benefit from a review and potential update in Phase 2.
  • Withdraw; the wording is not fit for purpose or is faulty and will be withdrawn from the LWR.

Notes

  • Where one committee categorised a wording as ‘archive’ and another identified it as ‘keep’, the wording will remain active on the LWR. Consequently, that wording will not be listed as ‘archive’ in the notice below.
  • Where one committee categorised a wording as ‘archive’ and another identified it as in need of an ‘update’, the wording will be reviewed by the LMA and the committee that uses the wording. Consequently, that wording will not be listed as ‘archive’ in the notice below.
  • Archived or withdrawn wordings are not deleted. They will remain accessible on the LWR and can be downloaded, edited and used like any other wording.
  • Archived and withdrawn wordings are not actively maintained by the LMA.

Each underwriter should decide for themselves whether a wording is suitable for a risk.

For more details on wordings and their status on the LWR, see LMA Archiving and Withdrawal Process for Wordings/Clauses on the LWR.

This notice focuses on the planned archiving of casualty wordings in the following categories:

  • Directors & Officers Liability
  • Financial Institutions
  • International Casualty Reinsurance
  • International Liability
  • International Professional Indemnity
  • Medical Malpractice
  • North American Casualty Reinsurance

The committees advised that the wordings listed are no longer in use or have been superseded. We therefore intend to archive them.

As Phase 1 draws to a close, we invite feedback from full members of the LMA with an interest in casualty.

Please check whether any of the wordings listed are still in use. If any should remain active, email underwritinglma@lmalloyds.com by close of play on 06 February 2026.
